auto lanes and other idiot traffic solutions
What is with this vehicular segregation on Cubbon Road? We won't discriminate against you based on caste, creed, colour or religion. But we'll tell you which side of the road to drive on based on the kind of vehicle you drive. That is so absurd. They tried it with buses and it didn't work, they tried it with two-wheelers and it didn't work. Why oh why do they think compulsorily putting autos on the left side of the road is going to miraculously solve problems?

Riding in lanes I am perfectly in agreement with. But shouldn't lane discipline be based on speed limits or some other rational basis of segregation? Now auto drivers use the dedicated lane as a license to speed and anyone trying to take a left turn has to pass through the auto lane which puts them at serious risk of injury or death. Besides, the auto lane is so narrow that if one auto stops then the entire lane is blocked.
For a woman driving on the roads of Bangalore, the most annoying specimen is not just the male idiot who thinks all women cant drive (for it is true) but the spit-inflicting, rule-breaking, callous autodriver who dents your car and then demands you pay him for doing just that.
If they have a lane or even a seperate county for themselves, none would be as pleased as I.
But you're right, anyone trying to take a left would most probably get "rickshawed."
Nevertheless that's why I suggested a seperate country :)
They should be banned altogether. Anyway, they are quite useless as a public transport system because they refuse to go to most places.
